More about Devon Humanists
Devon members are widely spread. (The red dots on the map indicate the location of members, the area of the dot being proportional to the number of members at that location.) Several regional groups have been formed whose members meet locally to talk together and to hear speakers on topics of interest to them. Larger meetings with a speaker on a subject of particular interest are arranged from time to time for all members (see activities and events).
Humanist Forum, issued four times a year, and Online Forum enable views and ideas to be expressed and are lively means of contact for Devon members. Members also receive a bi-monthly news letter to keep them up to date with our activities.
Devon and Cornwall were once combined as South West Humanists, which was a huge area, so in November 1993 the two counties divided into independent groups, still keeping in contact and with the same aims and ideals.
Why Belong?
Humanism is a positive lifestance giving a framework to life, as an alternative to religious belief. Local Humanist groups are the grass-roots of Humanism and provide opportunities to interact with like-minded and supportive friends.
Membership also helps Humanism to act as a counterbalance to indifferent or dogmatic views which hinder rational thought. Through wider contacts Devon Humanists are part of local, national and international links.
The Devon Humanists group is affiliated to the British Humanist Association (charity number 285987), to the National Secular Society, and to the International Humanist and Ethical Union.
